~The buildup has been wonderful. Bujold has set the stage and masterfully thrown open the doors to this world. The characters are well-developed, the villains are properly villainous and the less-sympathetic characters are tragic and repulsive at the same time (Orico)
~The women are all very strong-willed, independent and feisty, each in her own way. This is always a plus with me.
~A LOT of recent fiction has suffered from the story TELLING way too much. This is not a problem here. New writers, take note. Read this writer.
