So far I have not been too successful in my new venture. I didn't get up on time this morning (due to sleeping poorly the night before). I did manage to eat a small bit of breakfast, and I only drank half of a real-sugar Dr. Pepper (it comes with a green label on it, and I didn't see it anywhere else before I moved to Texas...it's delightful and does NOT have the nasty aftertaste of high fructose corn syrup). I didn't drink enough water, and I haven't read anything yet, but I'm going to go to bed soon and do that.

On the plus side I did study for a little while. I am independently studying abnormal psychology right now in preparation of taking a class some day. I found the text ridiculously cheap and brand new at a used book sale a few months ago. It's interesting and I'm enjoying the act of studying and learning again, even if it's for no credit at all. I'm also kind of half-doing an online Harvard course about vampires in popular literature. It seems like it's going to be fun and I've already read two-thirds of the reading list as it is, so I thought I might as well follow along for fun and games. It's free to watch the lectures and look at the syllabus.

Other than that it's been a fairly uneventful day. I had a slight headache after work, but I'm going to chalk that up to not drinking enough water today. I experienced a return of the sharp pain that I suspect has to do with that thing that happens to females every single month, as opposed to appendicitis, which was what I suspected at first. Then it started happening every month. My doctor suspects cysts and on doing some reading on my own, it would make a lot of sense considering other issues that I deal with.

Small joys: the scent of freshly bleached whites (after the dryer), watching the puppy chase the bigger dog the entire length of the apartment and back (over and over and over and over), tacos from Taco Bueno! with my husband, a fresh highlighter to use in a fresh textbook.

Now, bed. Now that it seems like a for-real release date on Patrick Rothfuss' next book is up on Amazon, I probably need to finish the FIRST book in the series (which I've been sitting on for at least two months now because I was so dismayed that there wasn't any more to read when I finished with that volume...I've essentially done the same thing with Scott Lynch's RED SEAS UNDER RED SKIES on a much grander scale). Or maybe I'll finish those last few pages of CHRISTINE. I started rereading it a few months ago and just didn't finish for whatever reason. I've read it at least a dozen times. It was inexplicably my favorite book when I was in middle and high school. I want to work up to reading THE STAND. I am ashamed to admit that I've never read it. I have it, possibly two copies of it (but I can't find my original copy) but I've barely cracked the cover. I am also ashamed to admit that I haven't read IT yet either. Please be gentle.
